At a combined event organised by the Burra History Group and the Shetland Family History Society, the launch of the third Surname of the Month was a most enjoyable evening. Found only in Orkney and Shetland in the English speaking world, the Inkster surname appears in the northern parishes in Shetland, but is said to have arrived in Burra Isle in the early 1600s and is the parish most associated with the name.
The Burra History Group holds a huge amount of local information and there is also a display and research available at 6 Hillhead, Lerwick.
